I have a confession to make.
I used to be afraid of people. I didn’t realize this until years into my training with don Miguel Ruiz. I was performing at one of his larger events when I suddenly realized that I was more comfortable ON stage than off!
I was literally terrified of people!
I’m reflecting back on this as I pack to head to WomanSpirit, an annual women’s retreat held by the Center for Spiritual Living Santa Rosa. (I’ll be providing the music there again!) And also as I prepare for our next Connection, Community and Consciousness gathering of women that I co-lead with my partner Z Egloff.
The healing power of community.
It has taken years of focused spiritual practice to heal and transform the wounds that were creating my fear. Community is one the things that helped me heal. Today I am blessed to be connected to community in ever richer and more fulfilling ways.
“Isolation is the dream killer,” says Barbara Sher, author of Wishcraft. How true. Community helps us become our best selves. It connects us to something larger than ourselves. And it can lead us back to Spirit when we get lost.
Where are your people?
Are they in your church or spiritual community? Your family? Your book club, knitting circle or sports-watching crew? Regardless of where you find them, your people are an important part of your spiritual path. A positive, loving community will always reminds you of who you are when you forget!
If you haven’t found your community yet, keep searching!
Keep looking and hold out for the right fit, and you will find it. It’s like dating. You don’t settle and stop dating before you’re in a relationship beyond your wildest dreams. Keep believing that you will have find your community(ies) – and you most certainly will!
Blessings to you – and thank you for being part of this circle of blessings for me!
